LISBON – Members of Alma Lea’s Dance Studio recently participated in the annual Moxie Day Parade.
This is the first year Alma Lea’s used a float to demonstrate dance ability. They won first prize in the commercial float category. The dancers were transported on a flatbed from Tom Carville Trucking of Lisbon.
The competition team had a successful year competing with other New England schools for medals. They brought home two first-, four second- and three third-place awards from the Dance America Competition. They also attended Dance Ovations and won 10 high silver medals and one gold medal along with a special award for the junior team jazz performance.
The junior team also received the Judges’ Award for its jazz performance. At the American Dance Awards, the team came home with seven silver medals and three high silver medals.
The competition team is holding fund-raisers for trips to New Hampshire and Massachusetts this year as follows:
Aug. 30 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., car wash, Stevens Feed Store, Sabattus; Sept. 6 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., car wash, Irving’s, Main Street, Lewiston; Sept. 13 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., car wash, Tire Warehouse, Topsham Fair Mall; Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m, car wash, Advance Auto Parts, Lisbon Street, Lewiston; Sept. 27 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., car wash and bake sale, Getty Station, Lisbon Street, Lewiston. Donations will be accepted.
