1916 – 2003

FARMINGTON – Marie G. O’Regan, 87, of Orchard Park Living Center, formerly of Quebec Street, Farmington, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 26, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born in Wilton, March 7, 1916, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ida (Barreault) Corrigan, she attended Wilton schools and was a graduate of Wilton Academy Class of 1935.

She graduated as a registered nurse from the Maine Eye and Ear Infirmary in 1938. During World War II, Mrs. O’Regan enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a nurse. After three years she was awarded an honorable discharge with the rank of lieutenant (jg). She served at the U.S. Chelsea Naval Hospital in Massachusetts and the U.S. Naval Hospital in Corona, Calif.

On Aug. 27, 1946 she married James O’Regan Sr. in Wilton and together they made their home in Farmington. She was employed for many years at Franklin County Memorial Hospital as staff nurse and private duty and worked as school nurse in Wilton. She retired in 1979 from the staff of the Health Center at the University of Maine at Farmington.

Mrs. O’Regan will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had many interests including summer concerts, quilting, cross-country skiing, school sports games and playing dominoes.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Guild, Neighborhood Extension, Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Maine Eye and Ear Alumni and the Androscoggin Blood Bank.

Survivors include a son, James Jr. and his wife, Deborah of South Portland; three daughters, Ann Marie Wattles and her husband, Alden of New Vineyard, Patricia O’Regan of Portland and Mary Jane Leighton and her husband, William “Bucky” of Temple; a brother, Francis Corrigan of Wilton; four grandchildren, Ryan Hart, Jamie Hart, Lucas Leighton and Chandler Thayer; one great-grandson, Brett Hart; two nieces, Linda Jackson of Lewiston and Jane Ellis of Wilton; and several cousins.

In addition to her husband of 50 years, who died May 21, 1996, she was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Corrigan in 1996.
