1901 – 2003

MANCHESTER, Conn. – Catherine Marie Hines, 101, a resident of East Hartford, Conn., beloved wife of the late William H. Hines Sr. passed away Thursday, Aug. 28, at Manchester Manor Health Care.

She was born to Maria Souleyreau on Oct. 29, 1901, in Biscarrosse, Landes, France. In May of 1919, she married William H. Hines Sr. in Bordeaux, France, during World War I.

She and her husband returned to the United States by military ship and made their home in Meadow View in Canton. They relocated to the Livermore Falls – Jay area where they raised their family. She worked for many years at Livermore Shoe Co. in Livermore Falls.

She and her husband and daughter, Frances enjoyed Sarasota, Fla., where they wintered for 15 years. Mr. Hines passed away in 1969. In 1980, she moved to East Hartford, Conn., with her daughter, Henrietta.

She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in her flowers, enjoyed needlework and jewelry making.

She is survived by a daughter, Henrietta Dill of East Hartford, Conn.; a son, William Hines Jr. of Livermore Falls; six grandchildren, Beverly Lawton of East Hartford, Conn., Mark Dill also of East Hartford, Conn., Randy Dill of Manchester, Conn., Susan Copeland and Debra Davis, both of Fayette, and Jeffrey Hines of Florida; 10 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. There are surviving nieces and nephews in France.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Catherine Frances Hines; and two grandchildren, William Henry Hines III and Linda Dill Rotbergs.
