1941 – 2003

LEWISTON – Richard E. “Dick” Mason, 62, a resident of Line Road in Greene, died Friday, Aug. 29, at CMMC where he had been a patient for one week.

He was born in Bethel on April 9, 1941, one of 10 children born to Alfred C. and Bernice L. Tibbetts Mason. He attended the schools of Winthrop and served in the U.S. Air Force.

On Feb. 15, 1963, he married Margaret Chute in Dover, N.H. “Dick” was a self-employed mechanic and also had worked at the Amoco Station in Greene.

He was a stockcar racer (No. 29) from 1961 to 1978 and was Track Champ at Oxford Plains Speedway in 1966.

He is survived by his wife of Greene; a son, Alfred “Fred” Mason and his companion Dot Paradie of Leeds; a daughter, Rose-Marie Mason of Leeds; four brothers and their wives, Ernest and Anita of Bethel, Gary of Greene, Albert and Kathy of Greene and Delbert and Marilyn of Greene; four sisters and their husbands, Eleanor and Ken Flanders of South Paris, Shirley and Joe Bitetti of Dover, NH, Virginia Curtis of Leeds and Pat and Dennis Green of Greene; four grandchildren, Hunter Alfred Mason, Katherine Ann Mason, Sarah Lynn Mason and Richard Earl Mason.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Jeannette Wajda; a grandson, Alfred C. Mason who was a twin to Richard Earl Mason.
