1921 – 2003

LEWISTON – Gerard “Giggs” E. Delisle, 82, of 42 Jefferson Street, Lewiston, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at the d’Youville Pavilion Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for the past three months.

Born in Berlin, N.H., on May 21, 1921, he was the son of Francois and Mary Roux Delisle. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1940 and attended Holy Cross College. He served in the Army during WWII, was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster.

He was a mason by trade, and served as business agent and secretary for the former Local II of Bricklayers and Masons. He was a past president of the Montagnard Club, and also belonged to Lewiston Senior Citizens, the Elks Club, the Pastime Club, American Legion Post #22, and served for two years on the City Parking District. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Apple Valley Golf Course.

Survivors include his wife, the former Eleanor Semook of Lewiston; a daughter, Diane and husband James Strickland of North Berwick; a son, Gerry of Lewiston; a sister, Mignonne Salois of Hartford, Conn.; and a beloved granddaughter, Kaitlin Strickland. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
