RUMFORD – The SAD 43 board meeting Tuesday will kick off with reports by each of the district’s administrators on how the first day of school went.

The session begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 2, at the Mountain Valley High School library.

After the public session, the board will meet in four closed sessions to consider readmitting two middle school and two high school students who were expelled last year.

In between, the board will act on a variety of issues, including action on seven policies, appointment of several new staff members, consideration of making changes to the school calendar, and acceptance of two resignations.

Staffing changes

Superintendent James Hodgkin said the positions of half-time family literacy director and two special education teachers will be created, leaving only two professional vacancies as the school year begins. Those are both for full-time, math literacy specialists.

The proposed school calendar changes are to add a sixth teacher workshop day in October, and to modify the calendar to reflect trimester grading periods for students in kindergarten through grade eight.

Hodgkin also said the board will consider whether to lend several former Mexico High School artifacts discovered at Mountain Valley Middle School to the Mexico Historical Society. Found were several yearbooks, a school bell and a flag.
