1923 – 2003

FARMINGTON – Hazel I. Curtis, 79, of Wilton and a resident of the Sandy River Center for Healthcare and Rehabilitation for the last three months, died early Sunday morning, Aug. 31.

She was born Oct. 5, 1923, in Wilton, a daughter of Willard and Ida (Withee) Burbank. She received her education in Wilton schools and was married on Nov. 15, 1947 to Walter E. Curtis in a double ceremony with her younger brother and sister-in-law, Almont and Katherine Burbank.

She met her husband when she was employed at the Wilton Woolen Mill.

Following their marriage, she enjoyed being a homemaker. After their children were grown, she packed apples at Harnden’s Apple Orchard and later worked at G. H. Bass.

Her favorite activities included playing Beano, dancing, shopping, going out to eat, (particularly at Chinese restaurants) and spending time with family.

She is survived by her three children, Richard Curtis and his wife, Rebecca of Phillips, Judith Tracy and her husband, Justin of Wilton and Ronald Curtis of Wilton; one brother, Almont Burbank and his wife, Katherine of Wilton; one sister, Mary Esty of Wilton; seven grandchildren, Danielle Wilbur and her husband, Jon, Mishelle Curtis, Jessica Tracy, Wyatt Tracy, Jenny Sinclair and her husband, Ron, Kara Curtis and Jesse Curtis; one stepgrandchild, April Langlais and her husband, Mike; five great-grandchildren, Jonathan Wilbur, Christiana Wilbur, Cary Rae Millbury, Amber Sinclair, Bryan Sinclair; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Shawna Wilcox and Destiny Langlais.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Sept. 20, 1988; two brothers, Orie Burbank and Frankie Burbank; and one sister, Pauline Jackson.
