1911 – 2003

FARMINGTON – Stanley F. Ellingwood, 92, of Wilton, died Friday, Aug. 29, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 1, 1911, at West Paris, the son of Vernon and Marjorie (McKenney) Ellingwood. He was educated in Buckfield, Rockwood, and Auburn, and New Mexico.

After working several years in Colorado and New Mexico, he returned to Maine. He married Teresa Greenleaf in 1934. They had one son, Stanley G. Ellingwood who is a rancher in Washington State.

He worked in shoe shops in the area, and played baseball in many local leagues.

He was a member of the Auburn, NH Fire Department from 1936 to 1942. During World War II he was in the Harbor Defenses of Portsmouth, NH. From 1944 to 1956 he was a permanent fireman and driver for the Rochester, NH, Fire Department, retiring in 1956 to accept employment at Simplex Wire and Cable Co. of Newington, N.H., for 10 years. Upon leaving Simplex he worked at various trades in the area until retiring in 1976.

Following his retirement, he and his wife Anna, who he married in Farmington, N.H., on Aug. 17, 1941, spent their time at their home in Rangeley and Florida. She passed away in Nov. 1993. He lived in Wilton until his death. He was a member of the Motolina Lodge IOOF 18, Rochester, NH. In his free time, he enjoyed playing cribbage.

He is survived by his son, Stanley G. and his wife Sylvia, of Spokane, Wash.; one grandson, Brook of Seattle, Wash.; a cousin, Jean Howe of Boothbay; and several other cousins.

He was predeceased by a sister, Louise; and his brother, Irving.
