1924 – 2003

LEWISTON – Richard Clifton “Dick” Loon, 79, a resident of Main St., Monmouth died Monday, Sept.1, at Central Maine Medical Center following a long illness.

He was born in Monmouth Aug. 30,1924, son of Clifton A. and Marion (March) Loon, he attended Monmouth schools, and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 5th Infantry having received the Bronze Star for service in combat.

On Nov. 6, 1946 he married the former Glen E. Morse in Monmouth who died April 27, 1998. Following World War II, Mr. Loon owned and operated a dump truck, hauling gravel in the summer months and logs in the winter months.

He later went on to work in the shoe shop industry in the Freeport and Monmouth areas for over 20 years. He then became employed with the Monmouth Highway Dept. where he worked for many years untill his retirement in 1986. Mr. Loon continued to work parttime as a dump truck driver for Larry and Sons and Randy Tibbitts Agregates up to the present time.

He enjoyed time spent with his family, socializing with friends, spending time in Monmouth Center, going to his sons camp in Eustis, going to local lakes and boating, reading and he was very faithful to watching the evening television news.

Survivors include two daughters, Roxanne A. Carr and her companion, Greg Wing of Monmouth and Christine M. Webb and her companion Tammy Richards of Livermore; one son, David M. Loon and his wife Glenda of North Monmouth; five grandchildren, Marie A. Gordon and her husband David of Greene, Crystal D. Lambert and her husband David of Fairfield, Conn., Scott R. Webb and his companion Iris Scott of Kalamazoo, Mich., Nichole J. Loon and Brent D.Loon both of North Monmouth; one sister, Rachel Wallace and her companion Will Bailey of North Monmouth; and one brother, Robert Loon of Winthrop.
