1919 – 2003

LEWISTON – Hugh R. Perryman Sr., 84, a resident of 61 Hackett St., Lewiston died Thursday evening, Sept. 4, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.

He was born in Amite County, Miss., May 24, 1919, the son of John Eddie and Pernesa Brock Perryman. He was educated in local schools. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he met his future wife, the former Betty Jane Eade in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. They married on May 9, 1942 in Bremerton, Wash.

He served aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga in the Marshall Islands, where he received the Purple Heart from injuries he received when the ship was bombed by the Japanese during the War.

He also was serving on the U.S.S. Missouri where the peace treaty between the United States and Japan was signed officially ending World War II.

He and his wife traveled with the U.S. Navy to Alaska, California, Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands and Hawaii. He retired from the Navy in 1960 with the rank of boatswain’s mate. He then was employed in PSNS as a ship painter.

His hobbies and enjoyments included carpentry and remodeling, fishing for King Salmon, and gardening.

He leaves a daughter, Annette Perryman Mohler of Johnson City, Tenn.; three sons, Hugh R. Perryman Jr. and his wife Angela of Bremerton, Wash., Grant Perryman and his wife Linda of Lewiston, and Douglas Allen Perryman of Tacoma, Wash.; five grandchildren, Theresa Perryman Vail and her husband Bodie of Bremerton, Wash., Brock Perryman of Bremerton, Wash., Lena-Jo M Perryman and her husband Darren of Lewiston, Joseph Perryman and his wife Jouleyanne Campbell of Lewiston, Scooter Harrison of Johnson City, Tenn.; five great-grandchildren, Stephanie Vail, Michelle Vail, Bryce Perryman, Grant C. Hartley and Sofia A. Hartley; a sister, Ida (Lovis) Alford of Greensberg La.; and many loving nieces and nephews in the Louisiana and Mississippi area.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia Louise in 1963.
