Youngs Corner work is on the horizon.

Lewiston paving work is picking up steam this week as fall approaches.

Public Works Director Dave Jones said crews should pave nine sections of roads and prepare nine others for paving this week. Of the 64 roads due for work this year, Jones said the city has finished with 23.

“The next couple of months ought to be really busy,” Jones said. “We really try to have it all wound up before November. We have been known to plow a road and then put pavement down, but we don’t like to do that.”

Crews are scheduled to pave nine Lewiston roads this week. Those roads are Spring Street from Whipple to Holland streets; Holland Street between Avon and Main streets; College Street between Holland and Union streets; Plourde Parkway between Goddard and River roads; Bobby Street between Adele and Imelda streets; Bosse Street between Stevens and Pineland streets; Janelle Street between East Avenue and Stevens Street; and Bates Street between Spruce and Ash streets. Crews will also put a final coat of asphalt on a new parking lot off of Lincoln Street.

Nine other streets are being prepared for paving later this month. That work includes raising manholes and stripping existing pavement.

Those streets are Fair Street between College and Central avenues; College Street from about 728 College St. to Lemieux Street; Pineview Street between Stetson and Balsam streets; Balsam Street between Pineview and the dead end; Burbank Street between East Avenue and Noble Street; Warren Avenue between Webber Avenue and Farwell Street; Charles Street from Farwell Street to the dead-end; Highland Street between Farwell and Haley streets; and two portions of Old Webster Road.

Jones said on Burbank Street crews will be stripping the existing pavement, regrading the road and compacting it. Residents will not be able to park cars on the street while that work is going on.

“They can leave them overnight, but not during the day,” Jones said. “That’s a narrow street there, so we need as much room to work as we can get.”

Youngs Corner culvert

In Auburn, crews could close Young’s Corner Road between Lost Valley and Perkins Ridge Road this week to dig a culvert.

Pavement Management Technician Paul Niehoff said the work would happen this week or next, and he expected a decision Monday.

“We need to hear from our contractor,” Niehoff said. “If we can, we’ll schedule it this week and close the road for a couple of days.”

Crews would dig across the road and then plan on repaving later in the month.
