MEXICO – Selectmen on Wednesday will take a look at what can be done to eliminate several abandoned or unsafe buildings, discuss the police cruiser use policy, and get updates on various ongoing matters.
The regular board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Calvin Lyons Hall of the town office.
Town Manager Joseph Derouche said several town agencies are concerned with the condition of buildings located on Roxbury Road, Route 2 and Carleton Avenue. He said the Planning Board will likely be asked to review the ordinances dealing with such matters at its Thursday meeting.
Derouche will update the board on the final tax rate, which came in .1 mill lower than originally set two weeks ago, bringing the rate to $28.90 per $1,000 valuation. That compares with a rate of $30.80 for last year.
He will also update the board on the town’s plan to staff a booth at the River Valley Expo set for Sept. 26 and 27, the annual Night of Appreciation on Sept. 18 for municipal employees, and set a date for a personnel policy workshop.
Other agenda items include: a public hearing at the start of the meeting on a liquor license request by the Covered Wagon Restaurant; reviews of the general assistance report, public access to police records policy, and Fire Department regulations; and acceptance of a donation by the owners of Advance Auto Parts for the town’s proposed gazebo.
A closed-door session is scheduled at the end of the regular meeting to discuss a potential business venture.
