LEWISTON – My name is Heather Baxter. I am 7 years old and I’m in the second grade and am home-schooled. I live in Lewiston with my family, Kiah, Marshall and Mama and Papa. We have three cats, Callie, Keiko and Tribble. I’m the kind of kid who likes to read. I also like to play ship and I like to run.
The title of the book I recommend is “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl. It is a magical story because the manager of the chocolate factory, Willie Wonka, is magical. The main character is Charlie. He’s 11 years old.
The main character’s biggest problem is he’s poor and he’s hungry. He found a golden ticket to Willie Wonka’s chocolate factory. The most exciting part of this book was when the Oompa Loompas, helpers at the chocolate factory, sang songs. That part of the book made me feel happy. I liked them because they were funny.
You should read this book if you like stories with a happy ending. It does have a happy ending. This is one of the best books ever. I have a lot of favorite books I like, and I can’t really choose my favorite.
I give it five stars ( * * * * *).
Baxter participates in the Hooked on Books parent/child book group at the Lewiston Public Library. Hooked on Books meets once a month on a Saturday. After a brief group discussion, the children and their parents work together on a book-related project.
For “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” the children created flags out of candy wrappers. Anyone interested in joining the group may register through the Children’s Room. For more information and meeting dates, call 784-0135, extension 4.
