Superchi earns LEC award

GORHAM – University of Southern Maine goalie Jessie Superchi earned Little East Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after turning in a stellar performance in the Huskies 1-0 loss Sunday at Division II national power Bentley College.

Superchi turned aside 19 of 20 shots, including a diving save on a penalty stroke that was labeled for the far corner. The only shot to elude her was on a penalty corner, when an opponent slipped a pass between her legs to a teammate, who rifled a low shot into the far corner.

The senior entered the 2003 season with career totals of 14 shutouts, 355 saves, and a 1.13 goals against average.

Chabot named to UMPI hall

PRESQUE ISLE – The University of Maine at Presque Isle will add three more athletes to the Owls Athletic Hall of Fame.

Kathern Chabot, native of Livermore Falls, was an oustanding cross country runner. She was twice voted Female Athlete of the Year at UMPI.

She captured NAIA Regional titles in 1993, 1994 and 1996, and finished second to teammate Sara Richard in the 1995 regional. Chabot set a new course record in the regional event in 1993. She advanced to the NAIA National meet all four years and placed 23rd in 1996. That finish earned her NAIA All-American status.

Artie Cross, Jr. and Emmett “Bud” Porter are also being enshrined. Cross played soccer for the Owls, while Porter played baseball and basketball.
