PHILLIPS – A Phillips man was arrested Monday night for allegedly raping a teenage girl earlier this summer.

Jerry Hanson, 46, of Bridge Street in Phillips posted $20,000 surety bail and was released from the Franklin County Detention Center a few hours after his arrest.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Department detective David St. Laurent said the Phillips girl told authorities in July that Hanson had forced sex on her earlier in the summer.

St. Laurent said the girl reported the man was a family friend and that the isolated incident occurred at his home.

“There is some indication that she said ‘No’ several times,” St. Laurent said. The detective also noted that alcohol, consumed by Hanson allegedly, “appears to have been involved.”

Hanson was charged with gross sexual assault, a Class A felony crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison upon conviction.

He will appear in court on Oct. 2. and while out on bail, must have no contact with anyone under the age of 18, or the victim and her family and use no alcohol or illegal drugs and be subject to random search and testing.
