RUMFORD – Dirigo scored three unanswered goals, including the eventual winning tally by Kayliegh Daley as the Cougars erupted for a 3-1 girls’ soccer win against arch-rival Mountain Valley Thursday night at Hosmer Field.

Dirigo (2-1) had dominated most of the first 30 minutes, but the Falcons 1-2 reversed the action and Tayna Nicols scored into the far left corner over Cougar goalie Jessica Blaisdell. Kristen Arsenault assisted on the play with 9:21 left in the half.

Dirigo quickly regrouped and scored two goals in one minute and 33 seconds. Alexa Kaubris headed in a shot off a corner, with Kassi Putnam assisting.

“I was pleased with the offensive flow,”said Dirigo coach Art Chamberlain said. “Especially the pace of the game. I’ve been experimenting with combinations. Tonight, Melissa Porter stood out at Stopper and Courtney Derouche at fullback.”

Daley then drilled a pinball shot past Falcon goalie Sasha Theriault (10 saves). The Falcons defense, led by Mahala Patrick, was pressured the entire game. Dirigo freshman Katie Hutchinson scored 44 seconds in to the second half. Kaubris assisted on the play.
