ELLSWORTH – Eugenia” Genie” Walker Merrill, 95, died peacefully at her home on Park Street on Sept. 12.

Born in Ellsworth, March 7, 1908, the daughter of Burton Bower and Caroline (Packard) Walker, she attended Ellsworth schools.

She was a lifetime member of the First Congregational Church of Ellsworth and sang in the choir for many years. She was also a member of the Busy Bodies and the Evening Circle.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother. She was a generous person who loved her family and helped in many ways to ease their burden during trying times.

During the early years, in addition to raising a family, she worked hand in hand with her husband, Ozzie Merrill in establishing and developing several businesses. A furniture store, of which she was president, a blueberry and an apple business.
