BETHEL – Gould Academy recently awarded the Gould Collegiate Scholarship to William White of Harpswell, and Buzzards Bay, Mass.
White, a junior in high school, was awarded the scholarship based on his history of high academic achievement and his aspirations to attend a competitive college or university.
White’s mother, Martha Janeway of Harpswell, is the coordinator of Project and Operations at Bowdoin’s Career Planning Center. She said of the award, “Even before the scholarship was announced, I thought Gould would be a great place for Will. The emphasis on outdoor experiential learning as well as a strong academic curriculum is ideal for Will’s abilities and interests, and the cultural and social backgrounds of Gould’s students are broad enough to ensure a comfort zone for him.” She added, “I feel as though my son is in the best hands possible.”
Head of School Dan Kunkle said of the new award, “this new scholarship re-enforces Gould Academy’s commitment to making its rigorous academic and residential life program available to as many qualified Maine residents as possible.”
