It still isn’t certain whether the damaged gym floor can be saved.

FARMINGTON – The Community Center is expected to be closed to the public for at least another week.

Early this month, a roof drain had failed during heavy rains and flooded the building causing extensive damage.

The building seems to be drying out, Town Manager Richard Davis said.

A company specializing in extracting excess water and moisture from buildings was called in to work on the building.

Damaged ceiling tiles have been removed.

The town is still waiting on several estimates, including ones on replacing ceilings and floors.

The big concern remains to be whether the gym floor can be salvaged, Davis said.

“There are some pretty sharp ridges in it,” he said.

He’s heard estimates ranging from $40,000 to $60,000 to replace the hardwood floor if it cannot be saved.

Davis is hoping to know the floor’s condition next week.

The building is covered by insurance, Davis said.

The center is still closed to the public, Davis said, and will be for at least another week.

It will also be closed periodically after it is reopened, to allow remaining repairs to be made, he said.
