LEWISTON – Jenna Benson scored with just over five minutes left in regulation to give Bates College its first lead of the day, and Kim Alexander added an insurance goal with five seconds remaining on the clock as the Bobcats beat Trinity 3-1 in a NESCAC women’s soccer match Sunday afternoon.

Trinity took the early lead when Kate Salottolo conected on a pass from Nicole Mauger, but Bobcats keeper Lynne Antinarelli blanked the Bantams thereafter.

Mary Bucci scored Bates’ first goal at 28:37 of the first half.

UMF 3, Becker 1

LEICESTER, Mass. – Erin Campbell drilled a pair of second half goals to power the University of Maine at Farmington to a 3-1 win over Becker College.

Campbell’s game-winning shot resulted from Jodie Welch’s assist at the 76:43 mark. Welch tallied the first goal off a pass from Erin Findlan at 2:41.

Patty Boutin needed only one save to register the win.

Elms 1, Thomas 0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Shelly Fournier tallied the game-winning goal early in the second half to lift Elms College to a 1-0 win over Thomas College.

Shaunna Lessard and Jessie Craft combined for 28 saves in the win.

PRESQUE ISLE – The University of Maine at Presque Isle cruised to a 14-2 win over St. Joseph’s of Vermont behind a hat trick apiece from Tara Copley, Monique Daniel and Lukie Gagnon.

Sam Grier and Rachel Larlee combined for 11 saves for the Owls.

Field hockey
Trinity 4, Bates 2

LEWISTON – Trinity scored three goals in the final 16 minutes of the first half to turn a one-goal deficit into a two-goal lead en route to a 4-2 win over Bates College in NESCAC field hockey action at Campus Avenue Field.

Jessica Baker scored a pair of goals, while Patricia Glennon and Caitlin French each added a goal in the victory.

Sarah Overmyer scored for the Bobcats (1-4) at 5:34 of the first half, and Carolyn King closed out the scorring with a goal at 49:16 of the second half.

Simmons 2, Husson 1

BANGOR – Simmons College used two penalty strokes in the first half by Caitlyn Lessard to defeat Husson 2-1.

The Braves answered early in the second period with a goal from Jenn Comeau, assisted by Sara McIntyre.

Tiffany Collins made seven saves to record the win.

Towson 2, Maine 1

TOWSON, Md. – Ashley Bacon scored from 15 yards out at 40:24 of the second half to lift Towson to a 2-1 win over the University of Maine.

The Tigers (5-2) took the early lead as Julie Lambi beat Black Bears keeper Jaye Lance 1:47 into the first half.

Maine (5-2) tied the game early in the second half when Karly Bundy scored off a penalty corner, taken by Traci Rainone.

Towson keeper Loren Wolf made 11 saves.

Men’s soccer
UMF 9, Becker 1

LEICESTER, Mass. – The University of Maine at Farmington men’s soccer team exploded for nine unanswered goals and downed Becker 9-1.

Brian Broderick booted a pair of goals, while Jeff Tatarczuk chipped in three assists in the victory.

Husson 4,

Maine-Machias 1

BANGOR – Shane Coffin scored at the 10-minute mark to pace Husson to a 4-1 win over the University of Maine at Machias.

Kyle James and Lee Bennett each added a goal for the Braves (4-2). Matt Goodman turned back 20 shots to preserve the victory.

St. Joseph’s (Vt.) 3

PRESQUE ISLE – Sebastian Itman scored the game-winning goal to give the University of Maine at Presque Isle a 4-3 overtime win over St. Joseph’s College of Vermont.

Andy Broomhall, Ben Goodman and Darren Belskis rounded out the scoring for the Owls.

Elms 5, Thomas 0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Adriano dosDantos recorded a goal and two assists and five different players tallied a goal to lead Elms to a 5-0 win over Thomas.

The Blazers (4-1) received the only goal they would need when Paulo Martins converted a penalty kick at 28:24 of the first half.

Josh McConnell and Todd Perkins combined for five saves in the shutout.
