PARIS – An armed standoff between a Stock Farm Road man and police ended early Sunday morning without anyone getting hurt.

According to police, Joseph Ellingwood, 57, brandished a shotgun to a teenage friend who reported it to police around midnight. When he allegedly brandished it again to responding officers from Paris Police Department, State Police were called to the scene.

“A dozen troopers from the State Police Tactical Team and four negotiators responded,” said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety. Negotiators tried to contact Ellingwood via phone, bullhorn and siren but there was no response.

After nearly five hours of attempts, state police fired tear gas into the house. Ellingwood surrendered to police and now faces a charge of terrorizing with a firearm, said McCausland. He was taken to Oxford County Jail.

“No one was injured, no shots were fired,” said McCausland.

Two homes were evacuated as a precaution, said McCausland. Stock Farm Road runs off of Route 117.
