AUGUSTA (AP) – The former town treasurer of Manchester has pleaded innocent to 31 counts of forgery in connection with the disappearance of $212,000 in municipal funds.

Patsy Rollins, 50, of Sidney, entered her plea Wednesday in Kennebec County Superior Court.

Rollins is accused of keeping property tax payments for herself when they were submitted to the town and then falsifying tax documents on 31 Manchester residents.

Officials in the town neighboring Augusta were notified of problems with tax payments when some residents called the town office and asked why tax liens had been placed on their properties.

Rollins is also the defendant in a civil lawsuit by the town and the Maine Municipal Association, which hopes to recover $150,000 it paid as the town’s insurer.
