LEWISTON – First-year players Mary Bucci, Jessie Gargiulo and Kim Alexander scored all four goals to lead the Bates College women’s soccer team to a come-from-behind 4-2 win over Tufts, ranked 13th in the most recent national poll Sunday afternoon.

Bucci got Bates started just over five minutes into the game, scoring off an assist from Becky Macdonald to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Jess Trombly tied the game for Tufts, scoring unassisted less than 10 minutes later.

Middlebury 1, Bowdoin 0

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Brittany Cronin converted a feed from Mayo Fuji from 15 yards out in the first overtime period to lift Middlebury College to a 1-0 win over Bowdoin College in women’s soccer action Sunday afternoon.

Cronin’ took the crossing pass from Fuji and headed it in to send the Panthers (5-1) to their fifth win of the season.

Field hockey

Maine 2, Providence 1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rachel Hilgar scored her second goal of the game at 14:19 of overtime to lift the University of Maine to a 2-1 win over Providence College in field hockey action Sunday afternoon.

WATERVILLE – Thomas College scored three goals in the first half led by Meridith Arute’s two goals, and then hung on to hand Western New England College a 3-2 setback in a North Atlantic Conference field hockey game Sunday afternoon.

UMF 2, Caselton State 1

FARMINGTON – Becky Christianson converted a pass from Mary Berry at 87:58 of the second overtime period to give the University of Maine at Farmington a 2-1 win over Caselton State in field hockey action Sunday afternoon.

Middlebury 2, Bowdoin 0

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Char Glessner took a pass from Channing Weymouth with 25:03 left in the first half for the only goal Middlebury College would need as it handed Bowdoin College a 2-0 loss in field hockey action Sunday.

Alison Smith iced the game with the Panthers (6-0) second goal just 10 minutes later.

St. Joseph’s 6, UMFK 2

STANDISH – Kelly Sirois buried a direct kick at 14:31 of the first half to lead St. Joseph’s College to a convincing 6-2 win over the University of Maine at Fort Kent Sunday afternoon in field hockey action.

Tufts 3, Bates 1

LEWISTON – Lea Napolitano and Lauren McGivern each scored first-half goals, and Jeanne Grabowski added another late in the second half to lead Tufts to a 3-1 win over Bates in a New England Small College Athletic Conference field hockey game on Sunday afternoon.

Napolitano and McGivern both scored field goals off an assist from Tracy Rittenour to give Tufts a 2-0 lead at halftime. Grabowski scored on a penalty corner with just 8:17 to play to give the Jumbos a 3-0 lead.

Men’s soccer

UMFK 3, St. Joseph’s 0

STANDISH – Juan Murphy scored a pair of goals and Sadat Abdulkarim added a pair of assists to lead the University of Maine at Fort Kent to a 3-0 win over St. Joseph’s College in men’s soccer action Sunday afternoon.

Murphy’s game-winner came five minutes into the first half unassisted. Andrew Clavette rounded out the Bengals scoring.

Bates 2, Tufts 2

LEWISTON – Mike Blea scored less than two minutes after Bates College took a 2-1 lead to lead the Tufts men’s soccer team to a 2-2 tie in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game on Sunday afternoon.

Anthony Silva and Ithai Schori both scored second-half goals, with Schori’s giving the Bobcats their first lead of the game with 21:02 remaining to play.

Blea also assisted on Brian Mikel’s first half goal for the Jumbos.

Bates outshot Tufts 18-12. Chris Mansfield made seven saves for Bates.

, while Scott Conroy stopped five shots for the Jumbos.
