The program will celebrate another successful season in downtown Lewiston.

LEWISTON – Lots to Gardens is organizing its annual Harvest Supper to celebrate the changing season and another successful crop.

An evening of food and games will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Knox Street garden. Neighbors, friends and families are encouraged to stop for some homegrown delicacies.

Shrubs now shade ground where glass shards once lay. After four years of work and dedication, the Lots to Gardens program has grown into a success story in downtown Lewiston.

Lots to Gardens involves residents in neighborhood greening projects by mobilizing resources to assist with projects, big and small. Actively involving community members in revitalization projects, Lots to Gardens provides a foundation for residents to rediscover a sense of community and to take pride in and ownership of their neighborhoods.

Celebrating the harvest for its fourth year, Lots to Gardens can cite many successes over the past years. Since its start it has completed many major projects and countless minor tasks. Some of these include:

Maple Street Park: Built raised beds, planted more than 40 shrubs and perennials and spread 60 yards of playground chips.

Maple and Knox streets: Spread loam, planted grass and trees.

Oxford Street Park: Maintained previous projects, built raised beds, planted trees and perennials, planted grass and spread playground chips.

Knox Street Garden: Built a permanent fence; planted, maintained and harvested throughout the season.

Blake Street: Removed seven truckloads of tar, spread loam and planted grass.

Lewiston Multi-Purpose Center: Worked with children on site planting flowers and beautifying the property.
