LEWISTON – A routine traffic stop resulted in two arrests for trafficking in cocaine early Friday morning, police said.

“Good patrol work and follow-up led to these arrests and (to) getting a good size amount of cocaine off the street,” said police Lt. Paul Harmon.

On Friday at 5:41 a.m. police Officer David Levesque stopped an SUV with Maine plates that was driving approximately 20 mph in a 45 mph zone on Lisbon Road, Harmon said.

“The officer was concerned it could be OUI,” Harmon said.

Police arrested Barry Wright, 29, of Boston for operating after suspension of his driver’s license. A check of the vehicle located a small amount of marijuana, police said.

A search of the suspects’ motel room at the Super 8 Motel at 1440 Lisbon St. turned up approximately an ounce of cocaine with an estimated street value of $1,200, police said.

Police charged Wright and Najia Chapman, 26, of Dorchester, Mass., with trafficking in drugs. The trafficking charges could result in up to 10 years in prison for each person, police said.

Wright and Chapman were being held at the Androscoggin County Jail. A $5,000 cash bail was set on the trafficking charges. Wright has an additional $200 bail on the operating after suspension charge.

Asked if more suspects may be involved in the case, Harmon said: “The case is still under investigation. There’s always the possibility.”
