1909-2003

AUBURN – Ruth Moore Medd died peacefully on Oct. 6, at Schooner Estates in Auburn, where she had resided happily for more than 10 years. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 17, 1909, she was the daughter of Lodema Bayles Moore and William Moore.

She and her husband, Charles Lowell Medd, M.D., were married for 60 years and spent most of their married and professional lives in Manhasset, N.Y., before semi-retiring in 1977 to Rossmoor Village in Jamesburg, New Jersey. Medd raised her two sons alone for more than three years while Dr. Medd served in the Navy Seabees during World War II. As the wife of a general practitioner in Manhasset, she shared her home with Dr. Medd’s office. She was a founder of the Congregational Church of Manhasset in 1939 and served later as a Deacon of the church. She sang for many years in the highly regarded church choir. She had many years of volunteer service at North Shore Hospital in Manhasset. She contributed many knitted afghans for fund raising. In 1993, she moved to Auburn to be near her son Dr. William Medd and his family.

Two sons survive her, Bruce Medd, M.D., of Naples, Fla. and William Medd, M.D. and his wife of Norway. A brother, Lloyd Moore of Connecticut survives her; another brother, Austin Moore, predeceased her. She is survived by eight grandchildren including Catherine Medd and family of Hebron; Dr. Donald Medd and family of Portland; and Michael Medd of Hong Kong; Kimberly Newsome and family, Bruce Medd and family, Bradley Medd and wife and Courtney Medd, all of New Jersey; and, Kelli Ogden and family of California. She enjoyed having 10 great-grandchildren.
