Selectmen will be interviewing three more candidates.

NEW GLOUCESTER – The finalist candidate for the town manager post in New Gloucester has pulled out of the running.

Chairman of the Board of Selectmen Steve Libby said the candidate was not able to come to terms with the board in the final phases of contract negotiations.

Meanwhile, the search effort now will focus on upcoming interviews with three additional candidates, Libby said by telephone Tuesday.

With the help of Maine Municipal Association, New Gloucester launched the search this summer to replace William Cooper, who announced in June he would retire but agreed to stay until the position is filled.

Two of the candidates are from a pool of 51 applicants and one has been recommended by Maine Municipal Association, Libby said.

Located in northern Cumberland County, New Gloucester’s 4,500 residents are served by an elected five-member Board of Selectmen and volunteer fire and rescue personnel and a number of citizen-appointed boards.
