PORTLAND – A Sabattus man was arraigned in federal court Friday on a charge that he possessed child pornography he had accessed over the Internet.

Robert O. Caron, 58, made his first appearance in U.S. District Court a month after he was indicted on a charge of possession of child pornography.

The case was investigated by the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force. Police said they recovered photos of children engaged in sexually explicit acts when they began investigating Caron.

Last month, Caron was issued a summons to appear in court after a federal grand jury found there was enough evidence to pursue charges against him.

Caron pleaded not guilty Friday and was released on $10,000 cash bail. A trial was scheduled to begin Dec. 1.

If convicted on the child porn charge, Caron faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
