George Washington faces at least five years in prison.

PORTLAND – A Lewiston man was convicted Thursday on charges that he sold crack cocaine in the area earlier this year.

George “Boo” Washington, 32, was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of distribution of crack cocaine.

According to prosecutors, Washington sold crack to an undercover informant on two occasions in April.

The informant was working for the Drug Enforcement Administration at the time as they investigated crack dealing in the Lewiston area.

Police said each sale of crack involved more than five grams of the drug.

Washington was arrested June 3 when federal agents stormed his apartment in Lewiston. He faces at least five years in prison under federal law.

The DEA and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted the investigation that led to Washington’s arrest as part of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force.

Dozens of local men and women have been arrested on drug charges this year as part of the effort.
