RUMFORD – Samm Johnson smashed the game winner early in the first half to lead No. 6 Mountain Valley to a 2-0 victory over No. 11 Maranacook in a Western Class B preliminary round field hockey game.

Johnson also assisted Jessica Allen’s insurance goal for the Falcons.

The Black Bears’ Rikki Welch turned back 16 shots in the loss.

Holderness 7, Hebron 1

HEBRON – Ashley Crook and Carling Delaney scored goals in each half to power Holderness to a 7-1 win over Hebron in field hockey action Saturday.

Hannah Ponte converted a pass from Megan Irving with 10:51 remaining in regulation to prevent the shutout for Hebron (0-7-1).

Abby Lavigne stopped 14 on 21 shots for Hebron.

Girls’ soccer
Gould 3, Hebron 1

BETHEL – Sarah Velte had a hat trick to pilot Gould to a 3-1 victory over Hebron in girls’ soccer action Saturday.

Velte’s two goals for Gould (4-1-1) in the first half were unassisted, while Allison Demshar fed Velte at the 26:22 mark of the second half for insurance.

Hebron’s Alex Chabot converted a relay from Anna Geismar with just under 12 minutes left to regulation to prevent the shutout.

Brianna O’Brien made 11 saves for Hebron (3-2-1), while Brianna Noyes stopped 10 for Gould in the win.

NYA 4, Poland 0

POLAND – Caty Brecht scored a hat trick to power North Yarmouth to a 4-0 victory over Poland in WMC girls’ soccer action Friday.

Hanna Fuller got NYA (13-1) on the scoreboard by converting a pass from Alex Mack at 17:32 of the first half and buried it in the lower right corner of the goal.

Kasey Darnell turned back 23 shots for the Knights (3-9-1).

Boys’ soccer
Lisbon 2, Winthrop 1

WINTHROP – Jared Church converted a pass from Jason Hayes at 18:24 of the second half to propel Lisbon to a 2-1 win over MVC rival WInthrop in boys’ soccer action Friday.

Church received a feed from Hayes from 18-yards out, turned and blasted it just past the outstretched hands of the Ramblers keeper for the game-winning shot.

Payton Austin scored the Greyhounds’ first goal at 22:54 of the first half.

Dan Lemieux recorded the contest’s first score for the Ramblers (3-10-1) at 21:04 of the first half but it was all Lisbon’s keeper Mike Wilkins (seven saves) would allow.

St. Dom’s 5, Gray-NG 2

AUBURN – Eric Russo and Shawn Longley netted two goals apiece to lead St. Dom’s to a 5-2 win over Gray-New Gloucester in a WMC boys’ soccer matchup Friday.

Jack Lavoie took a feed from Josh Dwinal and found the net for the Saints (7-7) to complete the scoring. Nate Hamlyn needed only three saves to notch the shutout.

Mike Amergian and Andrew Worth tallied single goals for the Patriots (4-6), while Tyler Doughty deflected 10 shots in net in the loss.

Monmouth 3, Hall-Dale 1

MONMOUTH – Tyler Somerville scored the winning goal late in the second half after a mad scramble in front of the net as Monmouth defeated Hall-Dale 3-1.

Mark Wade got the Mustangs (11-3) on the scoreboard early in the first half when he headed in Stuart Isaacson’s pass.

Isaacson also assisted Josh McNaughton’s insurance goal with three minutes left in the second half.

The Bulldogs’ (7-6-1) Jon Eiti had converted Sam Shain’s pass to tie the game early in the second half. Goalie Reid Durost had five saves on behalf of his team.

Hebron 5, Gould 0

BETHEL – Yoon Hyung-Lee nailed a pair of goals to lead Hebron in a 5-0 blanking of Gould Academy in boys’ soccer action Saturday.

Dai Miyajima hit a penalty kick and Luke MacDonald converted a relay from Peter Gladstone to give Hebron a 2-0 lead at the half. Jon McInnis chipped in with a second-half goal to complement Hyung-Lee’s pair in the win.

Hebron (3-7) goalie Jeremy Urquhart made 13 saves, while Greg Shroy deflected 10 for Gould (2-7).

Bridgton 1, Beaver Ctry. 0

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Curtis Alvorad converted a pass by Mathew Smith to lead Bridgton to a 1-0 win over Beaver Country Day School.

Holderness 40, Hebron 0

HEBRON – Dan Hale had two short touchdown runs to lead Holderness to a 40-0 rout over Hebron in football action Saturday.

Holderness (5-0) led 32-0 by halftime.

Hebron’s record falls to (2-3) on the season.
