1919 – 2003

LEWISTON – Alphena M. Gaumont, 84, a resident of 339 Pleasant St., Lewiston, died peacefully Wednesday evening, Oct. 22, 2003 at St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion, surrounded by her loving family, after a short illness.

Born at Eagle Lake, August 26, 1919, the daughter of Elzear and Edith (Saucier) Roy, she had been a member of this community since 1935 and had worked in the local shoe industry until her retirement.

Mrs. Gaumont was a member of Holy Cross Church and her hobbies included beano, knitting, crocheting and sharing her talents with others. She loved her family, children and grandchildren and will be sadly missed. She will be remembered for making mittens to give to needy children that needed them.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Valens (Marie Jeanne) St. Pierre of Auburn and Mrs. Raymond (Irene) Nadeau of Greene; one son, Roland L. Gaumont of Turner; one sister, Yvonne Biron of Georgia; eight grandchildren, Daniel St. Pierre, Susan Anderson, Doreen Scott, Michael Gaumont, Lisa Grenier and Debra Brayall; nine great-grandchildren, Korey St. Pierre, Rebecca Witten, Amanda Grenier, Matthew Grenier, David and Darcie Scott, Nicole and Joshua Brayall and Christian Anderson; a great-grandchild to be born in May; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Noel, who died Sept. 23, 2000, one daughter, Diane Brousseau, who died May 27, 1999 and she was also predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.
