PORTLAND (AP) – Portland’s passel of pumpkins fell far short of smashing the world’s lighted jack-o’-lantern record.
The city lit up 15,001 carved pumpkins at the Deering Oaks Park on Saturday.
It was trying to break the record of 23,727 lighted pumpkins set three years ago in Keene, N.H.
But the town of Keene has now upped the bar.
Keene broke its own record Saturday by lining the streets near Central and Railroad squares with 28,952 orange orbs during the city’s annual pumpkin festival.
The Oregon town of Estacada is also trying to squash Keene’s record this weekend.
Portland’s event raised more than $50,000 for the children’s group Camp Sunshine.
