Proud of Jay firefighters

I wish to recognize our Jay firefighters. The Jay Fire Department, in my opinion, is second to none. We often forget that these people put their lives on the line every time they respond to a call for service.

I have personally observed them enter burning buildings to save lives and protect property without giving it a second thought. The Jay firefighters do many different duties. They respond to all major motor vehicle accidents, making the scene safe, sometime extricating the injured from vehicles and also assist local ambulance services with the injured.

They respond to all hazardous material incidents and are fully trained to handle any chemical incident. Our firefighters are also trained in water rescues. To be certified to do all these tasks, the firefighters have to put in many hours of training.

Jay firefighters also provide other public services that most people are not aware of. They will assist in major windstorms when trees and wires are down and blocking roads. Our firefighters also visit public schools and provide fire safety tips to our children.

If you ever are looking for the true meaning of hero you don’t have to look very far, just look at a Jay firefighter.

Fair success

The Rumford Elementary Parent/Teacher Organization would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the local communities that supported the recent R.E.S. Craft Fair. The PTO would also like to thank the many crafters who participated. Special thanks to the many businesses and individuals for their food donations to the school.

The PTO would also like to recognize and thank the many parents who sent in baked goods and helped out by volunteering their time. The Rumford Elementary School staff supported the show with class crafts, donations for food and volunteering their time to work at the Saturday event.

Money raised will support many events that benefit our students at Rumford Elementary School. When the community stands behind its public schools, many worthwhile opportunities can take place for our children. We appreciate the community support for our annual Rumford Elementary School Craft Fair.
