1915 – 2003

FARMINGTON – Rosabelle “Rose” Merry Carter, 88, of Industry, died early Tuesday evening, Nov. 4, at the Edgewood Rehabilitation & Living Center.

Born in Farmington, July 31, 1915, a daughter of J. Alton and Lena (Rackliff) Merry, she attended Farmington schools.

On Aug. 15, 1933 she married John Lincoln Carter in Farmington. Mrs. Carter worked in the local shoe manufacturing industry, retiring from G.H. Bass in Wilton.

She enjoyed many crafts including knitting, crocheting, painting and cross stitching. She especially enjoyed times spent outside whether it was working in her flower garden or camping and fishing with her husband.

She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and attended the Congregational church in New Sharon.

Survivors include a son, Alton Carter and his wife, Kathleen of Industry; two daughters, Joanne Wheeler and her husband, Cecil, Jr. of Chesterville and Diane Pease and her husband, Ezra of North New Portland; a sister, Ida Carsley of New Vineyard; nine grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband on Nov. 30, 1989; a sister, Alice Stewart; and two brothers, Henry and Clinton Merry.
