1916 – 2003

MINOT – Bernice (Bunny) Simpson, 87, formerly of Stratton, died Friday, Nov. 7, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Minot.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, March 1, 1916, she was the daughter of George and Grace (Prizeman) Smith.

They moved to Augusta, where she attended school. On Aug. 7, 1937 she married Harold (Bat) Simpson in Augusta. They later moved to Flagstaff and then Stratton. He died Nov. 17, 1992.

For 20 years she worked at the Sugarloaf cafeteria from November to May. In the summer months she did housekeeping for several area residents.

She also worked at the Arnold Trail Hotel and Rogers Motel in Stratton as a cook and housekeeper, as well as the Black Bear Camps.

Mrs. Simpson enjoyed cooking, gardening and playing beano. She always had a good sense of humor.

Survivors include three sons, Harold (Bud) Jr. and wife, Pat of Kingfield, David and wife, Sherralyn of Stratton and James (Crow) and wife, Rita of Rangeley; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Barbara) Nadeau of Minot and Mrs. Edwin (Susan) Lowell of Rangeley; two brothers, Lloyd and Donald Smith of Augusta; one sister, Marion Blair of Augusta; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by a sister, Verna Whitney on Nov. 13, 1991; and two grandsons, Lester (Boofy) Quimby and David (Dee Dee) Simpson Jr.
