1921 – 2003

PORTLAND – Laura N. Luce, 82, of Strong, she went to be with her Lord, Sunday, Nov. 9, at Maine Medical Center with all of her family at her bedside, where she had been a patient for the past four days following a long illness of heart disease.

She was born in West New Portland, on Aug. 17, 1921, the daughter of Ralph A. and Carrie A. (Jackson) Nichols. She was educated in the schools of New Portland. She married Neil Luce, Oct. 6, 1942. He died March 5, 1993.

She worked most of her life at Strong Wood Turning Mill and several years at Forster Mfg. Co. in Strong. She was a member of the Strong Nazarene Church and participated in the church as secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Board of Directors. She donated the bell to the church in memory of her parents. Also attended the Strong Methodist Church.

She enjoyed camping, loved to go for country rides. She attended her grandchildren’s sports, was known for her cooking, especially her rolls and beans. She loved to read especially the Bible. She spent the holidays with her family; she loved her cat.

She was active in the Republican Party, served on the board of Strong Area Health Center; she was a member of the Senior Citizens of Strong and Strong Historical Society. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by three sons, James Leeman and his wife Lillian of Phillips, David Luce and his wife Judy of Hampden, Ralph Luce and his wife Rae Ann of Strong; three daughters, Rocky Targett and her husband Hugh of Strong, Cheryl R. Goding of Farmington, Gail Luce of Strong; one brother, Lewis “Ike” Nichols of Embden; one sister, Lelia Brooks of Anson; 18 grandchildren, Rebecca, Lawrence, Randall, Laurie-Anne, Linda, Glen, Scott, Michael, Mathew, Sabrina, Mandy, Chancell, Raechell, Robert, Sandra L., David, Sandra and Bruce; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces.
