Cellist receives top score
LEWISTON – Danny Rand, a sophomore at Lewiston High School, recently received the highest score of the high school cellists auditioning for the Maine Music Educators Association’s District 2 High School Instrumental Festival, which will be held on Jan. 30 and 31.
District 2 includes high schools in Gray, South Paris, Buckfield, Bethel, Cumberland, Turner, Naples Pownal, Fryeburg, Mechanic Falls, Auburn, Falmouth, Lewiston, Portland, Raymond, Windham and Yarmouth.
Rand is the principal cellist with the Lewiston High School Strings Orchestra, the Androscoggin Valley Community Orchestra and the Coastal Youth Ensemble of Topsham. He plays the double-bass with the Coastal Youth Orchestra, also in Topsham.
Rand lives in Lewiston with his parents, Bob and Phyllis Rand, his sister, Linda Rand, and the family cat, Neko. His grandparents are James and Phyllis Arnold of Fayetteville, N.C., Hazel Rand of Hallowell, and the late Robert L. Rand.
