VASSALBORO (AP) – A Vassalboro teenager has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated operating under the influence in connection with a Nov. 4 car accident that killed a 34-year-old man.

Justin Foster, 16, has been sent to the Mountain View Youth Correctional Center until authorities decide whether he should be tried as a juvenile or an adult, District Attorney Evert N. Fowle said.

“He is allegedly the driver,” Fowle said. “A felony petition has been filed with the court.”

Foster allegedly was driving a 1990 Dodge Shadow on the Gray Road at about 11 p.m. when it left the road, hit some rocks and overturned. Scott Edwards, also of Vassalboro, was killed.

Foster was thrown from the vehicle, but made his way to a nearby house to report the accident. Foster suffered serious head trauma and was airlifted by LifeFlight of Maine to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Investigators determined that excessive speed contributed to the crash. A blood alcohol test determined that Foster had an alcohol level that exceeded the legal limit for driving, Fowle said. .
