1918 – 2003

MECHANIC FALLS Margueritte L. Powell, 85, died Friday, Nov. 28, at her home on Bucknam Street, Mechanic Falls.

She was born in Denmark on March 15, 1918, the daughter of Charles and Lura Belle Bennett Holman. She graduated in 1936 from Dixfield High School and from Providence Bible Institute in Providence, R.I. in 1945.

For many years, along with her late husband, she was a missionary with the American Missionary Fellowship.

She was a member of the Pleasant Street Baptist Church of Mechanic Falls. She loved to cook, and had been a cook for many summer camps for more than 40 years.

She was married in Mexico on Oct. 20, 1945 to the late Rev. Thomas G. Powell, who died in Lewiston on Aug. 17, 1992.

Survivors include four sons, the Rev. Andrew P. Powell Sr. and his wife Sally of Turner, John T. Powell and his wife Ruth of Skowhegan, David A. Powell of Waterville, Timothy M. Powell and his wife Brenda of Nashua, N.H.; four daughters, Rachel Greenwald and her husband Joseph of Mechanic Falls, Naomi Sylvester and her husband Merlon Jr. of Albion, Martha R. Burnell of Warriors Mark, Penn., Lydia Hester and her husband Timothy Sr. of Ennis, Texas; two brothers, the Rev. Winfield H. Holman of Ashland, N.H., and Charles E. Holman of Dixfield; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother, Marion Holman.
