FREEPORT (AP) – For the second year in a row, Bingham can claim bragging rights for Maine’s best-tasting water.

The Bingham Water District took top honors Wednesday at the Maine Rural Water Association’s 17th annual Drinking Water Taste Test.

Experts judged water from 22 community samples for taste, clarity and aroma.

Bingham took the prize for the best non-chlorinated water before prevailing in a head-to-head competition with the Brewer Water Department, the winner in the disinfected water division.

“The Valley Cavaliers, Bingham Valley High’s boys basketball team, has won the state championship six years in a row – must be something in the water,” Amber Rogers, secretary-treasurer of the Bingham district, said while accepting the award.

Bingham will represent Maine in the national taste test next spring in Washington, D.C.
