1916 – 2003

LEWISTON – Frank J. Kozloski, 87, of Lewiston, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 15, at his home, with his family by his side.

Born in Edwardsville Pa., in 1916, the son of Anthony and Stella Twardowska Kozloski, he was educated in Pennsylvania schools and later graduated from Penn State University.

After graduation he worked one year at Westinghouse in Sharon, Pa. He then decided to further his studies at NYU in aeronautical engineering. After his schooling at NYU he and a couple of his friends decided to form their own company where they designed the PV2. The PV2 was the second helicopter ever made and can be found on display at the Smithsonian National Air And Space Museum in Washington, DC.

On Sept. 26, 1944, he married the former Bertha S. Anisko. He later worked for Kellett Aircraft Co. in Philadelphia, Pa., until his draft to the Navy. After his faithful service to our country he and a friend started another company which designed the JOV3. He later owned and operated his own machine shop in California. He also worked for many years at Hughes Aircraft Corporation, where he was proud of his work on the F102s and F103s fighter planes.

From California, he and Bertha moved their family to Pennsylvania, where they made their home with their four daughters. While in Pennsylvania, he received a job with the Boeing Co., where he was a tech rep for the Bomarc missile. He continued his work with Boeing in 1962 in Seattle and 1964 in Alabama, where he worked on the first spacecraft, the Apollo 11 that landed man on the moon. He later worked in Delaware on the SeaKnight Helicopters and later retired from Boeing in 1981 due to ill health.

It was then he and his wife made their home here in Maine. He was very talented with his hands and could accomplish, make and do anything with them. He loved to putter around the house and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed but always remembered.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years; four daughters, Christine and Larry Barnett of Silverdale, Wash., Linda and James Mazzone of Santa Clara, Calif., Caryle and Louis Janicki of Brewer and Lorraine and Roger Theriault of Lewiston; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
