RUMFORD – Less than a month after the first brochures and letters were mailed, the Rumford Hospital 2003-2004 annual appeal has raised more than $15,000 toward a goal of $50,000. The appeal ends June 30.

This year’s funds will purchase a blanket warmer for the emergency and radiology departments, an EKG monitor for day surgery, extra-large recliners for medical/surgery and an infant warmer.

A large portion of the $50,000 goal is needed to pay for the renovation of the former wellness center on the hospital’s third floor to become an expanded oncology suite, affording patients more comfort and privacy.

Since the suite opened, the number of patients it serves has more than tripled, and the original space is too small. In addition to patients with cancer, the suite serves patients with other diagnoses who require infusion treatment.

“Many regular donors have stretched their giving this year,” said Rumford Hospital’s Development Committee Chairman Don Cummings.

“Quite a few have even doubled their last year’s gift. But,” he added, “gifts of any amount are very welcome because they show support for the hospital in our community – for high quality health care close to home.”
