AUBURN – “As (former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives) Tip O’Neill used to say, ‘All politics is local’,” said Dr. Karl Trautman, chairman of the Social Sciences Department at Central Maine Community College.
“That’s why we’re hoping that people from all walks of life will enroll in our course in Maine state government next semester. It is more than a course on how a bill becomes law, we plan to bring in experts tax policy, economic development, environmental issues and other current topics, to give participants an understanding of how what government does affects their daily life – and how they can get involved in the process.”
Maine State Government (POS 201) will run from Jan. 13 through May 11 and will be offered from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays or from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays. The course carries three college credits. The cost is $258, plus books.
Trautman will be the instructor for both sections. He has extensive experience in state government, having served as staff in the Michigan House of Representatives. More information on Trautman can be found on the Central Maine Community College Web site at www.cmcc.edu.
