1919 – 2003

LEWISTON – Leo R. Cloutier, 84, of North Turner and Lakeland, Fla., went to be with his Lord and family on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003. He passed away at the d’Youville Pavilion Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for the past week, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Lewiston on June 2, 1919, the son of Jean Baptiste and Anna Laverdiere Cloutier. He was educated at St. Joseph’s School and Lewiston High School. He was married Dec. 2, 1939, to the former Cecile Caron, who predeceased him in 1999.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. Before retiring to his beloved home on Bear Pond, he and Cecile lived in Vernon, Conn., where he practiced his gifted talents as a building contractor, furniture maker, and woodworker.

While living in Vernon, he was an active member of his church and community, and was a charter and life member of V.F.W. Post 10121. Once he retired his hobbies were craft and woodworking, reading, and swimming and boating in Bear Pond.

Throughout his life he was a loving and caring person, with a zest for life that will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include two brothers-in-law, Normand Caron and Albert Milasauskis; several nieces and nephews; a special nephew, Arthur Caron, who lived with him when his health declined; and all the wonderful neighbors who helped him enjoy his last years at Bear Pond; with a very special thanks to neighbors, Peter and Eva Leavitt.

Besides his loving wife Cecile, he was predeceased by a brother, Fern Cloutier; sisters, Yvette Hennessey, Zelda Martel, Irene Bouvier, and Laurea Milasauskis.
