1926 – 2004

WEST PARIS – Wilson Edward Paine, 77, of South Paris died Sunday, Jan. 11, at Ledgeview Living Center.

“Eddie,” as everyone called him, was born at home in East Oxford on April 13, 1926, the son of Edward and Beatrice Paine. He attended the Pratt school, a one-room schoolhouse in East Oxford.

He enlisted in the United State Navy in 1944 at age 17, and proudly served his country during World War II on a sub-chaser PC 1207. After being discharged from the Navy in 1946, he met and married his wife of 56 years, Mildred A. (Johnson) Paine on July 19, 1947.

They resided in South Paris. Both were long time members of the South Paris Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

His deep faith in the Lord led him to hold Bible Studies at Market Square Healthcare Center, formerly known as Andrews Nursing Home, and Norway Convalescent Center for many years.

He and Mildred were awarded the Francis Wyman Volunteer of the year award in 1997 at Market Square Healthcare for the years of service they provided.

He worked in several wood working mills in this area, was a police officer for the Town of Norway for a short period of time, also 15 years at Francine Shoe Shop in Norway. He then went to work at Wilner’s Wood Products as a boiler operator and retired from there after 25 years.

A devoted and loving family man, he enjoyed spending time and traveling with his children and grandchildren as well as some very close friends, to various points of interest in the eastern United States and Canada. Another favorite pastime included watching “old movies” and reading biographies on his favorite old movie stars.

He is survived by his wife Mildred, currently residing at Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris; his daughter, Charlene Young and husband Oran of Norway; son, Ralph Paine, and wife Kris of South Paris; grandchildren, Diana Phinney and husband Brian, Randall Young and wife Tonia, Mark Young, Jeremiah Paine, Kemson Holyoke and husband Brad, and Kara Paine; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew, Ashleigh and Emma Phinney, Zoe, Melissa and Zachary Young, and Grace Holyoke; surviving brothers and sisters are, George Paine and wife Pearl, Dannie Paine and wife Elinor, Louise Palmer and husband Francis, Roger Paine and wife Hazel, Gordon Paine and wife Celia, Darlene Paine and companion Jim Cordwell.
