PARIS – Silver Moore-Leamon will be the speaker at the 10 a.m. service Sunday, Jan. 25, at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris.

Her sermon will focus on the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the present church building.

A hymn sung at the dedication in 1904 will be sung again on Sunday. The music will be by Renee Wales, flutist; and Forest Perkins, church organist.

The Sunday School will be in session during the service hour. The coffee hour will follow in Good Cheer Hall. Everyone is welcome.

Garden programs

PARIS – Designing and building an English garden in Maine will be taught from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the McLaughlin Foundation, Garden and Horticultural Center, 97 Main St., South Paris. Peter Monro of Monro Associates will conduct the class. The cost is $8 for nonmembers and $5 for members. Preregister by calling 743-8820.

The public is invited at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, to enjoy a bowl of soup and fresh bread while sharing favorite and/or new seed and plant catalogs.

Participants can bring a dessert and a favorite catalog to share. The 2004 catalog supply from Avant Gardens, Cook’s Garden, Fedco, Fieldstone Gardens, Hedgehog Hill, Johnny’s Seeds, Seeds of Change and Shepard’s Seeds will be available. Free. For more information, call Lee Dassler at 743-8820

Majorette recital

WEST PARIS – The Oxford Hills Majorettes will be holding their annual winter recital, “Karen’s Recital,” at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at the Agnes Gray School Gymnasium.

The recital will feature 12 twirling teams, including the Oxford Hills Majorette Tiny Tots. All twirlers are from the Oxford Hills area.

Also making a special appearance will be Jaci’s Jazzettes, a local dance group featuring three dance teams. Adults are asked to donate $1 at the door.

The Oxford Hills Majorettes will also hold winter/spring sign ups the first week of February. Call Lisa Kurtz to sign up at 674-3730.
