BOOTHBAY – The Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences is offering an opportunity for 16 Maine high school juniors to work with oceanographers in marine research.

The 15th annual High School Science Program is scheduled for May 9 to 13 and the deadline for applications is March 5. The program is called the Keller BLOOM Program.

The research activities and field studies in a variety of marine environments focus on the chemical, physical and biological properties of the ocean as well as the microscopic organisms that are common to the Gulf of Maine.

The laboratory provides room and board and chaperones. There is no cost to the students. Application materials have been mailed to all Maine high schools. For applications and more information, contact Jane Gardner at Bigelow Laboratory, 633-9600, or download information from the Web at www.bigelow.org.
