1917 – 2004

LEWISTON – Wayne Noel Welch, 86, of 200 Stetson Road, Auburn died at Central Maine Medical Center Thursday, Jan. 29.

He was born in Lewiston on July 31, 1917, the son of Harries and Irene (Traversey) Welch. He was educated locally and graduated from Lewiston High School Class of 1935.

Mr. Welch served his country by enlisting in the United States Army for four years during World War II as a member of the Signal Corp. He attended classes at Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute on electric motor repair and found employment at A.C Electric Co. until his retirement in 1980.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and volunteered as an usher and collector during mass. Mr. Welch was married on Oct. 15, 1960, to Theresa Bassett. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 1603, a member of First Auburn Senior Citizens, the Robin Dow Club, Golden Age Club, Horizon 55, and Club 50.

Mr. Welch, along with his wife Theresa, were members of the Twin City Travelers for 25 years, together they visited Switzerland, Bermuda, Las Vegas, and Florida, just to name a few of their destinations.

He enjoyed playing pool, cards, fishing and golfing in his spare time. Mr. Welch was a very well liked man and had a captivating smile that affected all who came to know him over the years.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years; his cousin, Russell Welch of Augusta; and a very special friend, Richard Davenport.

He was predeceased by his godson, Billy St Pierre.
