1926-2004

LEWISTON – Joseph G. Herbert, Jr., 77, died Friday, Jan. 30, at the Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston. He had resided on Porter Avenue, Rumford, and had lived in the area all his life.

He was born in Rumford, on July 3, 1926, the son of Joseph and Mildred (Carruthers) Herbert, Sr., graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford Class of 1944, and served with the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 during World War II in Germany.

Mr. Herbert worked as a welder at Oxford Paper Company and after 40 years retired in 1985 from the then called Boise Cascade Paper Company in Rumford.

Joseph was a Communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church. He was a member of the Boise Cascade Paper Co. 25 and 40 Year Club. He enjoyed running, baseball, hockey and automobiles.

Survivors include: a sister Mrs. Jacqueline Herbert and husband, Frank, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a brother Allan R. Herbert and wife MaryEllen of West Chester, Pa.; many nieces and nephews; and many grand nieces and nephews.
