LEWISTON – Androscoggin Bank is providing financial support to the Maine Council on Economic Education’s initiatives to improve the financial literacy of Maine students.

The council’s programs include the Economic Standards and Maine Learning Results; Connections: Math and Economics; the Maine Stock Market Simulation; the Maine Business Plan Competition; and the National Economics Challenge.

“MCEE’s financial education programs help students develop ways of economic thinking and problem-solving that they can use in their lives as consumers, investors, members of the work force and responsible citizens.” said Steve A. Closson, Androscoggin Bank president.

The center, in workshops, assists teachers and school districts to develop sequential kindergarten through grade 12 economics curriculum programs through the council’s print and Web-based lessons, activities and tests.

The center also provides regional and local school workshops for educators on developing courses and curriculum plans to meet Maine Learning Results and to prepare for the Maine Assessment Project.

The council is a private, nonprofit organization with offices at the University of Southern Maine.
